Davis Farmland, Sterling Massachusetts

Have you ever thought of going to Davis Farmland in Sterling, Massachusetts?  Have you ever been?  What did you think?  Well, here is what I think...

Davis Farmland is located about 1 hour northwest of Boston has a petting zoo, splash park and large playground.  They offer 2 cafes and an outdoor grill as well as an ice cream stand and a place to buy swimmie diapers.  Bathrooms are plentiful and offer, Boys/Girls/Family restrooms as well as a Nursing room.  There are showers and dressing rooms should you not need a restroom but want to change your clothes.  Goats are plentiful!  As are a large selections of rabbits, sheep, and chickens.  The farm has a couple large Hogs (and I mean large), a rare Spanish donkey, some cows, various other small animals and Pony rides (for an additional fee).  There are picnic tables available and hand sanitizing sites as well as an outdoor sink and soap for all to use.  In the fall (and for an additional fee) they boast a Cornstalk Mega Maze.   Davis Farmland is not HUGE but is just right size for those 10 & under that just want to pet some animals and on a hot day get cool in the spray park.  Crowds were light, but we visited on a cloudy 70 degree day.

My kids had a great time petting the animals, feeding them and then ending the day in the Splash park.  It was a little on the cool side, but that never stops kids from getting wet!

Here's what you should know about going to Davis Farmland.  BRING YOUR WALLET.  Or better yet, bring the deed to your house because if you've got more than one kid you're going to need a loan.  During the summer months admission is $19.95 per person over the age of 2 and up to 59,  this is no cheap petting zoo.  They do offer a AAA discount (which we took advantage of) simply by showing your card.   Pack a lunch or a family of 5 will be spending a small fortune on food.  A slice of pizza (Freschetta Frozen variety was listed at 6.29).  If your kids are anything like mine, one slice of pizza isn't going to satisfy their hungry tummies.  They have Chicken Nuggets, and wrap sandwiches all in the range of $6-$8.  The day we visited the outdoor grill was not offered so I can't comment on how much a cheeseburger would cost, though I doubt it would be less than $6.   This was the most expensive slice of pizza I've seen anywhere!

So, if you are considering a trip to Davis Farmland may I suggest getting discount passes from a friend/library/Groupon and pack a picnic lunch.

Introduction

Hello there!

I am a married mother of 3 wonderful children who has always thought that there are not enough places that accurately review places of interest with families in mind.   On a recent day trip we experienced both a wonderful time and sticker shock!  So here I am to tell you the truth about MY experiences at local (and some not so local places to go WITH kids.

I will do my best to post unbiased reviews of places to go, things to do, and places we've eaten.  Not all of them may be interesting to you but if you have anything to add feel free to comment.
